Agenda topics
Welcome
Agenda and previous minutes shared with all attendees. JMR to Chair as IT unable to attend due to illness.
Head Teacher Update
School website platform has gone live, Miss Melville will be working on this, putting on relevant info etc, Mr MacDonald and Mrs Campbell will also have access to admin side of website.
Mr MacDonald is currently prepping a calendar to go on the page, this will include school events and PTA meeting dates.
Mr Mac also would like to send out a google form to parents and carers to see what they would like included on the website. Suggestions raised at todays meeting are links to Welfare information and services/support, school handbook, school policies.
23 hour per week ASN post interviews to take place Fri 6th Oct, 5 candidates interviewing.
ELC Classroom Assistant post has been filled. Shannon Hamilton due to start 23rd Oct.
Newsletter
Newsletter has been on hold, as we haven’t had enough information as yet to collate towards a newsletter, or an appropriate platform to ensure it is shared with all parents, with school website issues. Now the school website is resolved and staff will be up and running on it soon, JMR will revisit this in the new year.
HO asks if website can ping reminders to parents re PTA meetings. NM unsure at this stage. Another suggestion is to have the newletter linked and parents can subscribe. Another option to be investigated. We will know more about this once school staff have had website training and time to learn the ins and outs of running the website.
Head Teacher Recruitment
No head teacher appointed since April 2022
Mr MacDonald in post since April 2022 as Acting Head Teacher, currently until 21st Dec 2023. Head Teacher post recently advertised. Letting in progress.
Dates for the Diary
Halloween Disco – 26th Oct 5.30-7.30pm This will be a ticketed event, primary age upwards. ELC’s will be having parties during that week.
Halloween disco volunteers required. People to set up/decorate, people to clean up, people to run raffle; apple dooking; tattoos; people to make up kids snack bags.
Items needed, apples, tattoos, cartons of juice (diluting juice last year resulted in a lot of spills & clean up during the disco in the gym hall), crisps, party bags – CD will provide bags again this year
DJ required
CD to post on social media also requesting volunteers
Christmas Fayre & Santa’s Grotto – 23rd Nov 3-6pm, 4 volunteers from Scenic Sandbank, Mr Mac and Mrs C from school will assist, alongside another two members of school staff. NM will ask staff if anyone wishes to help.
Coffee Morning – January, exact date tbc
Fundraising Festive Cards – JMR has been in contact with local printers re children all designing their own card and families having the opportunity to buy a pack of cards.
At this stage there are various options. Questions raised, can children have a sample card, therefore removing the need to buy if they do not wish to send/buy cards? Can we order teatowels? Added cost for envelopes, can we make this cheaper by sourcing our own envelopes? JMR will discuss these with the printing company.
School Grounds, Risk Assessment Update, Fence
JMR reads IT update re fence, council aware the fence leading from back gate running alongside path is not fit for purpose. No firm answer from council as to what the solution is yet, however, communication is ongoing.
There appears to be no further action regarding risk assessment & letter prepared by Stefan Blincow on behalf of the PTA. The agreement had been that this would be sent to relevant local councilors.
This risk assessment was made several months ago, so DS advises it may well be out of date. He would like to update with SB if possible, however points out SB and himself as well as a group of parents had already spent significant time working on this for PTA and is disappointed agreed actions do not appear to have been followed through.
CD collated attendees email addresses, DS has shared SB findings with the group. We have agreed to revisit this at next PTA once we have all had an opportunity to read, digest and possibly update the information, based on any improvements or indeed decline in areas within the grounds. Once this has been discussed and changes agreed at the next PTA, we will seek to send this to relevant local councillors.
Future PTA Dates
Amended PTA date 16th Nov, to allow discussions for ongoing grounds issue, head teacher recruitment, fundraising, xmas fayre, Jan coffee morning, cards and any other business
Any other business
CD enquires if reminder slips for PTA meetings were received. These were handed out to classes, however, as suspected some pupils lost them. It also is unclear if all children are receiving them, NM will check this. CD will continue to produce reminder slips to be handed out and will advertise on social media.
NM requests agendas and minutes to be shared electronically and he can ensure these go on the school website too. CD will email these.
